The Kyivan Rus' and Russia have a no direct connection. The Kyivan Rus' was based in the city of Kyiv, the current capital of Ukraine. What is now Russia was based on the Principality of Moscow founded *after* the fall of the Kyivan Rus'. The real medieval successor was the Kingdom of Galicia-Volynia based around modern day central and western Ukraine. They maintained Kyivan laws and culture as well as ethnic ties. Moscow on the other hand had not been a part of the Kyivan Rus' and the people of that area were only conquered by the Kyivan Rus' long after it was founded. The Kyivan Rus' was primarily based in Ukraine. The majority of cities (centers of commerce) and religious centers (which at that time were cultural and educational centers as well) were located in what is now modern day Ukraine.

Q: Why not Catholic Christianity? A: Because Catholic Church is more important than government of the King, in Orthodoxal it`s vice versa. Q: Why Rus was in Europe and Russia is in Asia? A: Because Mongolian Empire was in Asia. Q: Why Russia is so big? A: Because of Genghis Khan.

1. Slavs did not invite the Vikings, it's an etiological myth. Vikings came on their own will seeking to establish lucrative trade routes with the rich empires of the Middle East. In the process, the Vikings established trade posts along the major rivers, which later grew into the first Russian cities by attracting the local Slavic populations. 2. Kniaz Vladimir (aka Volodymyr, aka Waldimar) did not invite Christian, Muslim and Jewish priests, it's another popular myth employed by various chroniclers, e.g. Khazars. Christianization of Rus was a prolonged process of cultural influence wielded by Byzantium and especially Bulgaria. Cyril and Methodius, the creators of the Cyrillic script, were Bulgarians. So were the first proselytizers of Rus.

The term Kievan Rus was Russian historian Karamzin in the 19th century (for example, the term Byzantine Empire to indicate the Eastern Roman Empire was invented by the German Hieronymus wolf in the 16th century). No Kievan Rus never existed. Were the Rus of Kiev (in the South) to Novgorod (North) and Vladimir-Volynsky (in the West) to Murom in the East.

Why they didn't say that Kyiv has been a capital of Ukraine for centuries even before the foundation of Moscow and that Ukraine is more ancient country than Russia?

In fact, I was rather disappointed with this video as there are some serious factual errors that are unacceptable for an educational video. 1) You that Oleg was a son of Ruric, but, in fact, he was ether one of his warriors, or a brother of Ruric's wife. Moreover, Oleg acted as a regent of Ruric's son Igor. 2) Vladimir baptized Russia in 988, not in 987. 8 years earlier he tried to make a pagan reform, systemizing various religious cults in one, but failed, and only than has he started to look at foreign religions. 3) The first encounter of Russian and Mongolian armies was 1223 on a battle of the Kalka river.

Oleg isn't Rurik's son. He is regent of Rurik's son Igor! Moscow firstly got it's rules because of Golden Horde and then in 1480 it won a battle on the river Ugra (actually, there was no battle, Horde army just coudn't stand russian winter and went back to it's territory, because Russian didn't let Horde army to pass the river. Water and food supplies ran out and Horde army couldn't wait for battle anymore, but they also couldn't fight, cause the army was hungry and weak). Also, Novgorod wasn't under Horde's rule, but cooperate with Horde. And in the video there's nothing about how Siberia and Far East become Russian. And nothing about Alaska

Why do you speak about the Kievan Rus as the part of Russian history? The first mention of Moscow was only in 1147, but The Kievan Rus was formed in the ninth century. The most territory of the Kievan Rus belongs now to Ukraine. Besides you have mentioned, that the capital of the Kievan Rus was Kiev(which is absolutely true). But if you know geography well, then you must know, that Kiev is the capital of Ukraine. 🇺🇦

Russians are expansionists who always wanted to invade other countries, they have been doing this for centuries with the different tricks - Poland, Ukraine, Lithuania, Latvia, Finland. We had all the same problems - mission Russia at the gate: poor, with low culture invaders some of them wearing funny clothes.

it's a history of Ukraine. not Russia. Russian history in this video starts only after 4 minute. and they started to call themselves Russians only in 1700th. before that they called themselves moskovians or were called tartarians by other countries. just watch medieval maps of that region. they just stole Ukrainian history, like they did with everything else. cars, weapons, calculators and almost everything else.
